How to “Travel” Without Leaving the House

Need an Escape?

Summer trip cancelled? Worried you won’t have the chance to travel to that special place? Well, now you can leave the house…without leaving the house. Whether you have Spotify or Apple Music, music is a terrific way to pass time. Make a playlist with some of your favorite songs; whatever genre floats your boat. I recommend creating a “travel” playlist. Since we can’t go anywhere bring anywhere to you! Fill the playlist with songs that create a vibe of your ideal vacation spot, or even a mix of locations. As an aspiring world traveler, I created two travelling Spotify mixes of places I’ve gone or aim to visit. “A Trip to Mexico” and “We’re Going on a Trip”. You can check them out by clicking on the hyperlinks. (If you have “song suggestions” turned on, hopefully you’ll inspired to take a trip somewhere you haven’t thought of — post-quarantine, of course.)

The Magical World of Books

Books can also take us wherever our hearts desire. Reading allows us to go to another time, place, world — which is what I love about reading. Book your reservation and travel from the comfort of your own bed. You can even travel with friends and start a book club (via video call). My two favorite “travel” novels are My Side of the Mountain and Call Me By Your Name. My Side is a children’s book written in the 1950s about a young boy who leaves home and attempts to live in the Catskill Mountains. It’s a fairly short read, 177 pages, long enough for a quick trip to upstate New York. CMBYN is a bit longer, at 256 pages, but the book is captivating and really makes you feel like you’re in 1983 northern Italy. It tells the story of an intense summer romance and the years that follow. (The sequel Find Mewas just released October 2019.) For an even better experience try following along with an audio reading.
